1. Where is your school located?

Our school is located at 1531 9th Avenue North. Directions to Buena Vista Enhanced Option School.

2. How is your school different from other Metro Schools?

Our school is a can-do attitude and our motto is "Believe It! Achieve It!" Our educational program offers a variety of way for children to learn and grow. We strive to understand the whole child and place every student in classes best designed for learning. Our teachers are outstanding and their use of various teaching strategies such as the Hesperia model of skill-level grouping provides a rich educational environment. We target instruction to meet individual needs and use the best and most proven instruction strategies. Our faculty demonstrates flexibility and creativity in the classroom. Our parents are integral partners in our larger educational mission.

3. What does Enhanced Option School mean?

Buena Vista offers a 15:1 student-teacher ratio and 20 additional days of learning each June. Our program includes a Pre-Kindergarten educational level, social services and before/after-school care.

4. How do I sign up for Buena Vista EOS?

Applications are available at the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Office at 2601 Bransford Avenue or the internet at www.mnps.org To be eligible for the lottery, all applications must be submitted to the Magnet Office by the application deadline date. If the application is submitted after the lottery, the student’s name will go on a waiting list.

There are two times to sign up to attend our school. One is the Late Fall/Early Winter Registration time. The second time to register is Pre-Kindergarten-Kindergarten Registration during the spring, usually April. Any additional information needed, please contact the Magnet Office at 259-8676.

5. What time does school begin and end?

 Our school officially begins each day at 7:45 a.m. and dismisses at 3:00 p.m. There will no early dismissals after 2:30 p.m. Your child is considered tardy/late at 8:01 a.m.

6. How many days is my child allowed to miss?

Each child is allowed to miss 5 excused/unexcused absences. After 5 absences each child will be reported to the Attendance worker to follow-up. The total amount of days is 9. Each school’s goal for attendance is over 95% for the year.

7. Do buses pick up & drop off. If so, What time?

Yes, our buses pick up and drop off students. The times vary according to the bus route. If you need additional information call Transportation at 282-3870.

8. Do we serve breakfast?

Yes, our school serves breakfast. The times breakfast is served is 7:40 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. If your child needs to eat breakfast at school, please allow enough time for your child to be finished eating by 8:05 a.m. Our Pre-Kindergarten classes eat breakfast from 8:05 a.m.-8:20 a.m. All other grade levels eat when they arrive.

9. What time do we open the doors in the morning?

The doors of Buena Vista open promptly at 7:35 a.m. Please be advised any child that arrives before 7:45 a.m. will be asked to stand in the lobby until 7:45 a.m.

10. What time is my child’s lunch?

Each teacher’s class is assigned a certain time for lunch.


11. Do we have Pre-Kindergarten and if so, what ages?

Our Pre-Kindergarten classes serves children the age of 4 only. Each child must reach their 4th birthday by September 30th. Parents must provide transportation to and from school each day. Pre-Kindergarten hours are 7:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. YMCA provides before and after care for our Pre-Kindergarten classes. There are openings as of September 1, 2005.

12. Does your school have before and after care?

Our school offers before and after school care from the YMCA Fun Company. Fun Company begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 7:45 a.m. The after school care for Pre-Kindergarten begins at 2:00 p.m. and for grades Kindergarten through 4th grade begins at 2:45 p.m. Fun Company closes at 6:00 p.m. As of December 2005 there is a waiting list.
