Opportunity Room

The Opportunity Room is designed for students who have been removed from their classroom and have missed valuable learning experiences due to poor behavior choices.

Teachers at Buena Vista take great pride in all their efforts to provide the best educational opportunities for all students. The expectations are high and the curriculum rigorous.

We feel it is our responsibility to ensure a quality education regardless of the situations that may occur. Therefore, in order to make certain "No Child [gets] Left Behind", we provide the opportunity for any student who has missed significant academic instruction a required one-day stay after school to complete any missed assignments or needed practice work.

The Opportunity Room is open every Tuesday with two or three Buena Vista certified teachers present. The principal's discretion will determine attendance based on behavior for the week.

Reasons for attending the Opportunity Room include, but are not limited to:
* 2 or more behavior problems that deem removal from the classroom
* Office referral from teacher
* 2 or more incomplete assignments

Letters are sent home on Friday to notify parents of their child's required attendance in the Opportunity Room on the following Tuesday. Parents should sign and return the letter to school the following Monday. If forms are not returned on Monday, the principal makes a phone to ensure the parent received the letter.

Opportunity Room hours are 4:00 p.m.to 5:00 p.m.
